23-01-12 Melissa Ruru and Lydia McCormack have won the Karapiro Beach Volleyball Open, the first event of the 2012 International Tour. It the Men's Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann narrowly defeated Ben O'Dea and Kirk Pitman 15-13 in the 3rd set.

17-01-12 After day 1 of the NZ Age Group Beach Volleyball the top 8 in the 6 divisions have been found, Quarter final action kicks off at 9am Wednesday morning, with finals between 2 and 4pm at the Main Beach.

15-01-12 Rotorua's Melissa Ruru has won the NZ Beach Volleyball National Champs with her partner Lydia McCormack. The pair narrowly got through their semifinal match in a 3 set nail biter, the final was more comfortable over Jessie Muggeridge and Hannah Croad. 

31-12-11 Julia Tilley and Micah Lindsay-Brown have won the women's Mauao Grand Slam, while Paora Morunga and Griffin Muller have taken out the men's event.

19-12-11 The BOP Junior IPC Boys have finished 2nd after a high quality final against Auckland. The BOP Junior Girls were also knocked out by Auckland in a close semi final, after which they secured 3rd with a win over Manukau.

16-12-11 The Bay Junior IPC Girls and Boys teams won all their games yesterday and are through to the knockout stage today. 

11-12-11 Rachel Morgan and the FSU Seminoles have made it to the final 4 of the Division 1 US College Volleyball Champs. This is the ex-Otumoetai College outside hitters final year of college volleyball and we are all hoping that she can finish with an NCAA title. The semi final match against UCLA will be played 2pm Friday NZ time, with the final Sunday NZ time. 11-12-11 The Bay of Plenty Junior Rep team was trialed on Saturday and a boys and girls team selected. Both team have also now had 2 very good trainings and are looking strong ahead of the Northern Zone IPC tournament on the 15th and 16th of December in Otara. Click here to see the teams.

7-12-11 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have upset the 8th ranked team in the World to win the lastest Asian Beach Volleyball event in China. This is the ideal preparation for the Asian Champs that start this week. Click here for more details.

6-12-11 Congratulations to Mt Maunganui College Girls Junior A team who have won the North Island Junior Volleyball Champs for the first time after defeating Tauranga Girls College in the final in 3 sets. 

5-12-11 Congratulations to Tauranga Boys College Year 10's, Western Heights High School Year 9 Boys, Otumoetai College Year 10 Girls, and Bethlehem Year 9 Girls who took the gold medals at the North Island Junior Beach Champs.

08-10-11 Paora Morunga and Griffin Muller have won the Men's Challenger at Mt Maunganui today. Andrea Tauai and Dylan Vaetoe took out the Women's Challenger after the top seeds failed to get out of first gear this morning. 

04-10-11 Sam and Ben O'Dea have made a strong start to the Zhangjiajie Open in China. They won their pool then beat Indonesia and Malaysia in the elimination rounds to advanced to another semi final on the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour. They will now play China in the semi final.

04-10-11 The BOP Junior Prelims were a huge success in the new TECT Arena, 37 teams were all vieing for the top 6 pool. Click here to see who made it. 

29-09-11 For the third time this season Sam and Ben O'Dea have taken a podium finish on the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour. They have finished 3rd at the (US$15,000) Changasha Open. Sam was struck by a bout of food poisoning the night before the semi final so was playing under stress in the semi against China. The boys fought hard and lead 8-5 in the third set before the heat and the chinese crowd conspired against the kiwi's, with the chinese taking the final set 15-11. In the bronze medal match the O'Dea's defeated Indonesia in another 3 set marathon 19-21, 23-21, 15-11. Now they head the Zhangjiajie Open.

28-09-11 Sam and Ben O'Dea have once again made it to the semi finals on the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour, this time in China. After getting through a tough pool, they progressed to the knock out phase where they beat Maylasia 2-0, then Oman 2-1 to progress to the semi's where they will play the top China team.

06-09-11 Manukau South have beaten Tauranga Women in the final of the National Club Championship. Tauranga have now recorded 2 golds, a sliver and a bronze over teh past 4 seasons. Tauranga Men defeated Scorpians in their final game to finish 11th. 

02-09-11 Stewart Henderson will be looking to add a 3rd Club National title on Saturday when his Tauranga Women's team take on Manukau South in the final at 4pm. Tauranga defeat Hamilton 3-0 in their semi today. North Harbour Raiders will take on Sparta in a repeat of last years men's final at 6:30pm Saturday

31-08-11 Jenny Kirk and Stewart Henderson have been honoured by VNZ at club nationals as 2 of 6 recipient of life member ship to VNZ. Congratulations to them both and thanks for their many years of service.

31-08-11 Tauranga Women's have started their nationals defence with a comfotable 3-0 win over eastern angels (CHCH), while Tauranga Men have been defeated 3-0 by defending champs Sparta (AKLD)

29-08-11 It was a privilege to attend the opening of the new TECT Arena last Thursday. A special mention was made of Bob Addison past Councillor and of our members who have dedicated a huge amount of volunteer hours in the process of this massive project. Thanks to Mike Dudson, Greg Cummings and Tim Cleaver who have worked hard in ensuring we get a facility that will meet the needs of our Volleyball community. Many , many meetings over many years now seem all worth it as it has been built to our expectations and will most certainly blow you all away !.  And so to the SPORT users – get in there and enjoy it. 26-08-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have lost their first match against the Netherlands in the main draw 2-0 (21-16, 21-13). Their second match resulted in a 2-1 win against Norway (21-23, 21-16, 15-13). They now have a match against Italy tonight at 9pm NZ time.

25-08-11 The Women's Grand Prix has started in Macau, Hugh McCutcheon has lead his USA Women's team to a 3-0 victory over Japan. Click here to watch the match and all the matches for free online.

25-08-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have qualified for the main draw at the HP Open in The Hague. Tonight they will play the Netherlands in their first main draw match. O'Dea / O'Dea and Petersen / Watson both lost their first qualification match and were eliminated.

24-08-11 Three NZ teams will once again attempt to qualify for the main draw at the latest round of the Swatch World Tour. Sam and Ben O'Dea will face Bulgeria at 9pm NZ time, Mark Petersen and Mike Watson will face Austria also at 9pm NZ time. Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have a bye through to the 2nd round. Follow the teams here.

18-08-11 Pitman / Lochhead have qualified for the main draw after 2 wins in the qualifying tournament. O'Dea / O'Dea  manage 1 impressive win before going down to the experienced Ces Brothers from France, Watson / Petersen were beaten in their first match together on the World Tour. 

17-08-11 Three NZ teams will play the qualifier over night in PAF Open of the World Beach Tour in Finland, Pitman Lochhead have a bye in the first round, O'Dea O'Dea play Austria and Watson Petersen play Italy.

08-08-11 Ben and Sam O'Dea have finished in 13th place in the latest German Beach Tour Event. After winning 3 qualifying games to make the top 16, they were then seeded to play Dollinger / Windscheif (who finished 9th at the 2011 World Champs). The Kiwi's took the first set but lost 2-1 (15-21, 26-24, 15-13). They then moved into the losers bracket where they had a 2nd 3 set loss to Berken / Romund (16:21, 21:19, 15:10). The boys now travel to Finland where they will train for a week with other BOP boys Kirk Pitman, Jason Lochhead, Mark Petersen and Mike Watson, before they all compete in the World Tour Event the following week.

01-08-11 NZ Junior Women have finished 16th in their tournament of 24 teams at the USA High Performance Championship. The team have now arrived home after the 12 day trip. Well done to all the players and coach Stewart Henderson and manager Jenny Kirk.

25-07-11 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 9th at the Quebec Open in Canada, winning 3 matches. They now move to Poland for the next round of the World Tour. Sam and Ben O'Dea failed to qualify in Quebec, and will now try to qualify for a German tour event.

21-07-11 NZ Junior women depart for Arizona today. The team have been in a training camp in Tauranga for 3 days culminating in a match against club champions Tauranga. Tauranga won the match 3-2. While in Arizona the NZ team will play in the US HP tournament. Click here to follow the team. 

21-07-11 Sichuan have defeated NZ men in the first of 4 test series. Last nights game was very tight and an extremely high level. Sichuan took the first 2 sets, before NZ regrouped to take the third. Sichuan pulled away again to win the 4th and the match 3 - 1 (25-15, 28-26, 18-25, 25-17). Click here for the match report

13-07-11 NZ Junior Men and NZ U17 boys and girls have all started their Australian Junior State Champs campaign this week. The Junior Men are competing in the U21 section and are 0 from 3 games, they play South Australia today. The U17 teams are both 2 from 4 games with 2 more pool games today. 13-07-11  Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman are seeded 9th in the qualification tournament at the Moscow Grand Slam in Russia. Tonight they will face BLR and if they win they will play BRA for a spot in the main draw.

06-07-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman are seeded 6th in the qualification tournament at the Gstaad Grand Slam in Switzerland. Tonight they will play the Czech Republic, if they win they will play 1 more game to qualify for the main draw. 

05-07-11 Congratulations to Mauao Sports Men's Volleyball team who defeated Sparta (defending NZ club champions) this weekend in the Northern Zone League 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-17, 25-20). Mauao Sports now sit in 5th place in the league after a slow start. Tauranga Women also recorded a win over rivals Sparta this weekend and sit atop the Northern Zone League.

04-07-11  Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have finished 25th at the Norway Grand Slam.

01-07-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have won 1 and lost 1 overnight in Norway. Tonight they will play Austria in their pool, currently all teams have 1 win and 1 loss so a victory could place them 1st in pool, a defeat could see them finish last and miss the post section. 

30-06-11 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have recorded the closest win of the world tour this year to qualify for the main draw of the Stavenger Grand Slam in Norway. NZL beat Estonia 2-1 (21-16, 15-21, 31-29), NZL will now face BRA, AUT and NOR in their pool. starting with a centre court appearance tonight against the local Norwegians. This game should be streamed live here at 10pm NZ time.

27-06-11 Morgan and Sonny have finished 9th equal at the under 19 world champs. They won their pool winning all three games, in the round of 16 they lost to Ukraine 2-0 (22-20, 21-19) a disappointing result after a very strong start to the tournament. Poland took the gold in both genders this year, continuing their age group success.

24-06-11 Morgan and Sonny have won their first pool game at the U19 world champs beating Czech Republic 2-0 (22-20, 21-13). Tonight they will play their last 2 pool games, firstly against Canada at 9pm (NZ time), then Germany at 3am.

22-06-11 Griffin Muller (Otumoetai College) & Tom Hartles (North Harbour) have failed to qualify for the main draw at the U19 Beach World Champs. They lost their first game to Latvia 1-2 (13-21, 21-15 and 8-15). Sonny Hirini & Morgan Seymour will face the Czech Republic tonight in the first of their 3 pool games in the main draw.

21-06-11 Griffin Muller (Otumoetai College) with his partner, Tom Hartles (North Harbour) will attempted to qualify for the main draw of the Under 19 Beach Volleyball World Champs Wednesday night (NZ time). 18 teams will be vying for 4 main draw spots. Sonny Hirini (Tauranga Boys) and Morgan Seymour (Whakatane) have automatically qualified for the main draw. 

17-06-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have finished 3rd in their pool at the Beach Volleyball World Champs in Rome. They have been able to clinch one of the lucky 3rd spots in the top 32. For their next game they have been drawn against 1 of the 12 pool winners and have been lucky to draw a less experienced German team, a win tonight would give them a top 10 result.

16-06-11 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have won 1 and lost 1 in their pool at the Beach Volleyball World Champs. 14-06-11 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead will play tonight at 2am at the Beach Volleyball World Champs. Games start at 7:30pm tonight and there is free coverage streaming here, there is also an iPhone app (search FIVB) which has live scoring. 

13-06-11 The beach volleyball World Championships starts in Rome tonight with Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead not scheduled to play until Tuesday night. First they will face Brazil, who have just come off a win in Beijing on Saturday. NZ also have Ukraine and Denmark in their pool, so if they can produce an upset over Brazil they will be in good stead to make it out of their pool.

 31-05-11 NZ Men's and Women's Beach teams have both cruised to victory in the Oceania Sub round of the Olympic Qualifying. The next stage is the Oceania round which will be held in January / February 2012 in either NZ or Australia, here NZ will need to finish in the top 3 out of 6 to progress to Asian round. Well done to both squads for this first achievement.

24-04-11 Both NZL mens teams have reached the semi finals at the Batam Open on the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour. Sam and Ben O'Dea, along with Edwin O'Dea and Brendon Heath will both face teams from Kazakhstan in their semis. Click here to read more. 18-04-11 NZ U19 women's team announced with a strong BOP flavour. It is not surprising after collecting gold and silver at the NZSSVC the NZ U19 team features 8 BOP athletes. Click here to see the team. 

18-04-11 Ben and Sam O'Dea have restarted the Asian tour with a bang, winning the first event of 2011 in Thailand. The O'Dea's were 3rd seeds after some top results last year. The pair now travel to 2 more Asian tour events before stepping up to the World Tour Event in Shanghai at the start of May. Click here for press release

04-04-11 Congratulations to Andrea Tauai who was named tournament MVP at NZSSVC. Also named in the tournament team were Toni Bullock, Stephanie Pierce (TGC), Alyse Barclay, Melissa Cairns, Amy Hunter (OC) and Beniece Douch (BC). On the boys side Maia Westrupp, Jimi Lyford (Trident) and Sonny Hirini (TBC) made the tournament team.

02-04-11 Another great year for Bay of Plenty Schools at School Volleyball Nationals. In Div 1 Tauranga Girls picked up Gold, Otumoetai Girls Silver, Trident Boys Silver, Tauranga Boys Bronze. In Div 2 Otumoetai Boys Gold, Western Heights Boys Silver, Western Heights Girls Bronze.

31-03-11 Three BOP team have made the Finals at NZ School Nationals. Tauranga Girls and Otumoetai Girls have both cruised through their semi finals against Waimea College and Marlborough Girl College respectively. They will now face off in tomorrow afternoons final. On the Boys side Tauranga Boys and Trident High School meet in their semi final, the match went down to the wire, in the 5th set Trident produced some big blocks and took the match to book a place in the final against Westlake Boys High School.

30-03-11 Trident High School Boys and Girls, Whakatane High Girls, Bethlehem College Girls, Tauranga Girls College A and B, Otumoetai College Girls, Mt Maunganui College and Tauranga Boys College have all made division 1 at the National Secondary School Champs. Today they play there last 2 pool games which will decide who progress to the quarterfinals.

28-03-11 Tauranga Boys and Tauranga Girls have both started the National Secondary Schools Champs with a win. Both are top seeds, with TGC looking to repeat their victory from last year. In an upset Otumoetai College Boys A were beat by Manurewa High School this morning.

23-02-11 The BOP SS Volleyball Competition starts this weekend. After this weekends prelim tournament teams will be split into pools of 5 for the first round of competition. Click here for more details. 

24-02-11 The NZ Senior Men's Volleyball Team will be holding trials at One Tree Hill College Gym on March 5th. Along with the NZ Men's team a development team will also be selected both will compete at the South Pacific Challenge, held April 25 - 29. Click here for more details.

16-12-10 The BOP Under 15's have had quite a successful day at the Northern Zone IPC, in the Girls the BOP A team topped their pool closely followed by BOP B, so both will play semi finals at 10am Friday. In the boys, BOP B upset BOP A to advance to the Final against Auckland at 2pm Friday. Your support for the teams would be appreciated. The tournament is at QEYC Stadium, Tauranga.

2-12-10 BOP schools have secured 5 of the 8 semi final spots in Div 1 at the North Island Volleyball Champs. Mt Maunganui Girls are making their first trip to the semis after nudging passed Bethlehem. Otumoetai Girls have knocked out Kawerau to make the semi again, and Trident and Tauranga Girls are still battling each other for the last semi spot where they will face Mangere. In the boys Tauranga Boys and Western Heights (who knocked out Trident) are into the semis, while Mt Maunganui boys lost a 3 set battle with De La Salle.

 20-11-10 Congratulations to Paul Barr (SS Coach of the Year), Trident High School Senior Boys Volleyball (SS Team of the Year) and Tauranga Girls Senior Girls Volleyball (SS team of the Year), for their awards at teh BOP Sports awards.

21-09-10  The NZ Under 19 Girls have finished 12th at the Asian Junior Champs after losing their last game to Australia 3-1.

18-09-10 Sam and Ben O'Dea have been knocked out of the U21 Beach Volley World Championships. The pair finished tied with Russia and Australia in their pool with Russia coming out on top of the count back to progress to the top 16.

18-09-10 The NZ Under 19 Girls will play again tonight after a rest day. They will face Iran and will be looking for their 2nd win of th tournament after they beat Fiji on Thursday night.

16-09-10 The NZ Under 21 Women's beach volleyball team have won 1 and loss 1 at the beach volleyball world champs. Jessie and Lydia beat USA 2 21-16, 21-16, next they faced a very strong Russian team, who beat them 9-21, 8-21, to knock NZ out of the tournament. Ben and Sam O'Dea play Australia at 9pm tonight in the main draw.

15-09-10 The NZ Under 21 Women's beach volleyball team, Jessie Muggeridge & Lydia McCormack, will compete in Alanya, Turkey tonight against USA 2, if they win this game they will have 1 more game in order to progress to the main draw. Sam and Ben O'Dea have automatically qualified for the main draw and will start play Thursday evening.

13-09-10 Congratulations to iNdoorstarZ (Tauranga), who won the 2nd annual BOP 4 a side club championships in Tauranga on Saturday. They defeated TBC1 in the finals, with Wot Eva (Rotovegas) 3rd.

09-09-10 New Zealander Hugh McCutcheon has coached the US Women's team to a World Grand Prix Gold. McCutcheon who has been coaching the Women's team for 2 seasons now lead the team to an undefeated finals campaign in China. 

30-08-10 Tauranga Women have won the National Club Championship for the 3rd time! Lead by sereval experienced players Tauranga defeated Scorpians (Dunedin) in the final 3 - 0, to finish the tournament without dropping a single set. Shannen Bagge was named best setter, Taina Savage was named best passer and 20 year old Lisa Claassen was named MVP. Tauranga Men finished a solid 7th, Tauranga Womens Raiders finished 10th and Tauranga Womens B finished 5th in Division 2.

22-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 17th in Aland, Finland. This draws their world tour season to an end as they will not play in The Hague in order to keep a high seeding for next years tour. Congratulations to them both for doing the Bay of Plenty proud.

16-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 5th in Norway, after beating 2 top 10 ranked teams. This is their best result in 2 years, when they finished 3rd at the same tournament.

06-08-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have won 1 from 2 matches over night in Poland, the win, over Spain, was a major stepping stone as they are 1 of the most consistent teams in the World. The lost was to the Polish, who seem to thrive at their home events.

05-08-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman start their next tournament on the beach volleyball world tour tonight. They are now in Poland for the Stare Jablonki Grand Slam. In their pool they will play Spain and Poland tonight and Norway tomorrow. Spain knocked NZL out of the last tournament in a close match so the Kiwis will be looking to reverse this result. 

02-08-10 Paora Morunga and Morgan Seymour have finished 9th at the Under 19 Beach Volleyball World Championships. NZL won 2 of their 4 games, and were eventually knocked out by Germany, who went on to finish 3rd. 

02-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 17th at the Klagenfurt Grand Slam. They won 1 game in their pool play to make it into post section, where they were beat by Spain. USA won the tournament.

28-07-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman kick off their Grand Slam campaign tonight in Austria, they will face the top Austrian team at midnight tonight on centre court. 28-07-10 The NZ Under 19 squad had a tough day in Portugal. All 3 qualifying teams went down in their first match. Steph Pierce and Kelsie Wills performed well to take a set off their opponents Norway. The Squad features Whakatane's Paora Morunga and Morgan Seymour (NZL1), Tauranga's Sonny Hirini (NZL2) in the boys and in the girls, Tauranga's Steph Pierce (NZL1). 12-07-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 9th at the Gstaad Grand Slam in Switzerland. The pair topped their pool after beating Germany 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 15-11) this gave them a bye to the 2nd round where they drew the Olympic Champions as their opponents and lost 0-2 (12-21, 16-21). 

12-07-10 Tauranga Women's A recorded 2 comforable wins in the Northern Zone league on Saturday. Tauranga Men's and Tauranga Raiders both found things tougher losing their games in 3 sets.

09-07-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have had a huge day in Switzerland, upsetting 2 top 10 seeded teams in their pool, guaranteeing them a spot in the knockout stage of the Swatch FIVB Grand Slam, they will play tonight in a game that could secure them a bye through into the top 16.  Click here to see there progress.

08-07-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have once again qualified for the main draw of a Swatch FIVB Grand Slam, this time in the Swiss Alps. NZL beat Italy 2-0 (21-10, 21-12) and then Sweden 2-1 (21-13, 15-21, 15-7) and will now face a tough pool featuring the German team who won last weeks tournament, the local favourites and an up and coming German pair. 02-07-10 Tauranga Men's and Women's will both travel to Hamilton to complete the last games of the first round robin of the Northern Zone League. Both teams have already qualified for the top 4. Rotovegas Men's, Mt Maunganui Men's, Tauranga B and Raiders Women's will all play in Otara, all will be looking to be promoted to the Northern Zone for the remainder of the season.

2-07-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have advanced to the main draw of the Norwegian Grand Slam on the Beach Volley World Tour. Overnight they started their pool by losing 2 nail biters, firstly to Germany 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 20-18) then Brazil 2-1 (26-28, 21-16, 15-11). 23-06-10 Tauranga Men's and Women's A will both travel to Otara on Saturday to continue their Northern Zone campaigns. The Men's team will play Norths (Whangarei) and South Auckland A. The Women's team will play South Auckland and Sparta A. In the Midlands League Tauranga Women's B and Raiders and RotoVegas Men's look likely to progress into the next round of competition after this Saturday's matches in Rotorua. Tauranga Men's B and Mt Maunganui Men's will fight it out for the last spot.

10-06-10 More Bay of Plenty volleyballers have been selected into NZ age group teams. In the NZ U19 Women, Melissa Cairns, Amy Hunter, Alyse Barclay (Otumoetai), Gabi Fifield, Toni Bullock, and Irene Tauai (Tauranga Girls). In the NZ U17 Women, Beniece Douch, Sally Davenport (Bethlehem), Yasmeen Ngaropo (Whakatane HS), Dayna McGregor (Rotorua GHS), and Jemma Shaw (Trident). BOP coaches have also been appointed to these teams, U19, Head Coach - Stewart Henderson, Manager - Jenny Kirk, Trainer - Lisa Claassen. U17, Assistant Coach - Dean Papuni.

10-06-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have once again won through the qualifier into the main draw. This time in Moscow, in the 2nd of 5 Grand Slams on the Swatch FIVB World Tour. NZL beat Australia and Venezuela, and will now meet, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland in the main draw.

31-05-10 Five Bay of Plenty players have been selected into the NZ under 17 men's team, which will compete in the Australian State Champs in July. The players are: Maia Westrupp, Cameron Rio-Kumeroa, Jackson Sinclair (Trident), Charlie Clague (Otumoetai) and Matthew Kilpatrick (Tauranga Boys).

31-05-10 Pitman and Lochhead have finished 13th in the Beach Volley World Tour event in Poland. They won 3 qualifying games and 2 main draw games to record their best result of the season so far. 

27-05-10 NZ's top men's and women's beach volleyball pairs have both made it to day 2 of the latest World Tour event. In Korea Blundell and Scarlett lost to China then beat Korea, they will play Georgia in their first game today. 26-5-10 The NZ under 18 womens team has lost a tight game at the Asian Youth Volleyball Champs against Vietnam 3-2 (25-21 24-26 22-25 25-20 15-13), they will now play a 9th -12th semi final against Iran.

25-05-10 Five BOP Girls are currently in Kuala Lumpur competing for NZ at the 8th Asian Youth Volleyball Champs. The team was beaten by Japan and Australia and therefore missed the top 8 but have since beaten India. The BOP girls are Marina Maxwell, Stacey Niao, Justine Kirk, Aneta Buckley and Melissa Cairns.

24-05-10 Tauranga's Kiri Hirini is the latest in a growing list of young volleyballers to sign up to US University Volleyball team. Kiri has signed with Long Beach, who have a excellent history of results in women's volleyball. The College season starts in August. Click here for more details. 

8-04-10 O'Deas on top in Asia. Ben and Sam O'Dea have claimed their first Asian Beach Volleyball Tour victory in Thailand this week. At just 17 and 19 years old respectively they managed to defeat some much more experienced international teams. Click here for more infomation.

29-03-10 Plenty of Gold. Trident High School and Tauranga Girls College both claimed gold in the NZ Secondary Schools' Volleyball Championships on Friday evening. Calvin Buttimore and Andrea Tauai were also awarded MVP of the tournament, while 9 other BOP players made the tournament team. Click here to see all the results from the tournament.

26-03-10 Tauranga Girls College and Trident High School Boys have progressed into the Division 1 finals at the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Volleyball Championships. They will face Hillcrest High School and Kelston Boys High School Respectively. Live scoring will be available here for both finals. The girls final is scheduled to start at 3:00pm, and the boys at 4:30ish.

23-03-10 Edwin, Sam and Ben, commonly referred to as ‘Triple O’Dea’ will head Thailand and Indonesian for  the first four tournaments of the 2010 Asian Beach Volleyball circuit.  Edwin O’Dea will pair up with partner Johann Timmer.  Edwin was a member of the number 1 ranked team on the McEntee Hire National tour, securing this position earlier this year with two tour titles in Christchurch and Wellington.  Ben and Sam were members of the 2nd and 3rd  New Zealand ranked teams respectively with partners Mike Watson and Greg Lindsay-Brown.   This will be Ben and Sam’s first international competition and is the first part of their  build up for the World Under 21 championships in Turkey in September.    In July they will visit the USA for a 3 week training block with AVP players.
 
Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead departed for Los Angeles this week as part of their build up for the first  FIVB Swatch World Four event in Brazil.   Jason and Kirk will have a one week training block camp with Olympic Gold Medallists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhauser, another week with long time training partners and high profile AVP team Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb before heading to Brazil to spend their final week of preparation with two of the top Brazilian teams.
