30-08-10 Tauranga Women have won the National Club Championship for the 3rd time! Lead by sereval experienced players Tauranga defeated Scorpians (Dunedin) in the final 3 - 0, to finish the tournament without dropping a single set. Shannen Bagge was named best setter, Taina Savage was named best passer and 20 year old Lisa Claassen was named MVP. Tauranga Men finished a solid 7th, Tauranga Womens Raiders finished 10th and Tauranga Womens B finished 5th in Division 2.
22-08-10 Sam and Ben O'Dea have won the latest tournament on the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour. The pair are now travelling to The Hague in Holland to compete in their first World Tour event together. Click here to read the press release.
22-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 17th in Aland, Finland. This draws their world tour season to an end as they will not play in The Hague in order to keep a high seeding for next years tour. Congratulations to them both for doing the Bay of Plenty proud.
16-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 5th in Norway, after beating 2 top 10 ranked teams. This is their best result in 2 years, when they finished 3rd at the same tournament.

06-08-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have won 1 from 2 matches over night in Poland, the win, over Spain, was a major stepping stone as they are 1 of the most consistent teams in the World. The lost was to the Polish, who seem to thrive at their home events.
05-08-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman start their next tournament on the beach volleyball world tour tonight. They are now in Poland for the Stare Jablonki Grand Slam. In their pool they will play Spain and Poland tonight and Norway tomorrow. Spain knocked NZL out of the last tournament in a close match so the Kiwis will be looking to reverse this result.
02-08-10 Paora Morunga and Morgan Seymour have finished 9th at the Under 19 Beach Volleyball World Championships. NZL won 2 of their 4 games, and were eventually knocked out by Germany, who went on to finish 3rd.
02-08-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 17th at the Klagenfurt Grand Slam. They won 1 game in their pool play to make it into post section, where they were beat by Spain. USA won the tournament.

Steph Pierce and Kelsie Wills performed well to take a set off their opponents Norway. 12-07-10 Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead have finished 9th at the Gstaad Grand Slam in Switzerland. The pair topped their pool after beating Germany 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 15-11) this gave them a bye to the 2nd round where they drew the Olympic Champions as their opponents and lost 0-2 (12-21, 16-21).

NZL beat Italy 2-0 (21-10, 21-12) and then Sweden 2-1 (21-13, 15-21, 15-7) and will now face a tough pool featuring the German team who won last weeks tournament, the local favourites and an up and coming German pair. Rotovegas Men's, Mt Maunganui Men's, Tauranga B and Raiders Women's will all play in Otara, all will be looking to be promoted to the Northern Zone for the remainder of the season.

Overnight they started their pool by losing 2 nail biters, firstly to Germany 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 20-18) then Brazil 2-1 (26-28, 21-16, 15-11). The Women's team will play South Auckland and Sparta A. In the NZ U17 Women, Beniece Douch, Sally Davenport (Bethlehem), Yasmeen Ngaropo (Whakatane HS), Dayna McGregor (Rotorua GHS), and Jemma Shaw (Trident). BOP coaches have also been appointed to these teams, U19, Head Coach - Stewart Henderson, Manager - Jenny Kirk, Trainer - Lisa Claassen. U17, Assistant Coach - Dean Papuni.
10-06-10 Jason Lochhead and Kirk Pitman have once again won through the qualifier into the main draw. This time in Moscow, in the 2nd of 5 Grand Slams on the Swatch FIVB World Tour. NZL beat Australia and Venezuela, and will now meet, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland in the main draw.

26-5-10 The NZ under 18 womens team has lost a tight game at the Asian Youth Volleyball Champs against Vietnam 3-2 (25-21 24-26 22-25 25-20 15-13), they will now play a 9th -12th semi final against Iran.
25-05-10 Five BOP Girls are currently in Kuala Lumpur competing for NZ at the 8th Asian Youth Volleyball Champs. The team was beaten by Japan and Australia and therefore missed the top 8 but have since beaten India. The BOP girls are Marina Maxwell, Stacey Niao, Justine Kirk, Aneta Buckley and Melissa Cairns.

29-03-10 Plenty of Gold. Trident High School and Tauranga Girls College both claimed gold in the NZ Secondary Schools' Volleyball Championships on Friday evening. 26-03-10 Tauranga Girls College and Trident High School Boys have progressed into the Division 1 finals at the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Volleyball Championships. They will face Hillcrest High School and Kelston Boys High School Respectively. Live scoring will be available here for both finals. The girls final is scheduled to start at 3:00pm, and the boys at 4:30ish.
23-03-10 Edwin, Sam and Ben, commonly referred to as ‘Triple O’Dea’ will head Thailand and Indonesian for the first four tournaments of the 2010 Asian Beach Volleyball circuit. Edwin O’Dea will pair up with partner Johann Timmer. Edwin was a member of the number 1 ranked team on the McEntee Hire National tour, securing this position earlier this year with two tour titles in Christchurch and Wellington. Ben and Sam were members of the 2nd and 3rd New Zealand ranked teams respectively with partners Mike Watson and Greg Lindsay-Brown. This will be Ben and Sam’s first international competition and is the first part of their build up for the World Under 21 championships in Turkey in September. In July they will visit the USA for a 3 week training block with AVP players.
Kirk Pitman and Jason Lochhead departed for Los Angeles this week as part of their build up for the first FIVB Swatch World Four event in Brazil. Jason and Kirk will have a one week training block camp with Olympic Gold Medallists Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhauser, another week with long time training partners and high profile AVP team Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb before heading to Brazil to spend their final week of preparation with two of the top Brazilian teams.

10-12-09 The inaugral North Island Junior SS Beach Volleyball Champs was held at Mt Maunganui over the weekend. As with the indoor earlier in the week the BOP was dominant again. The Year 9 girls was won by Whakatane High School, the year 9 boys was won by Tauranga Boys College, and Otumoetai College took out both the boys and girls year 10 titles. 04-12-09 Otumoetai Girls have over powered Bethlehem College to win the North Island Junior Volleyball Championships. In the boys Western Heights came out all guns blazing and took the first set of the finals, however Trident boys stuck in and emerged as the 2009 boys champions in a 3 set thriller.

02-12-09 North Island Secondary School Championships qualification phase is over. 12 BOP teams qualified for first division (top 16), 6 boys and 6 girls . Over the next day and a half the teams will battle it out in pool play followed by quarter finals on thursday evening. 16-11-09 The BOP Polytech BOPSS Beach Champs was held under beautiful blue skies on Saturday. 70 teams competed over 4 divsions. The Senior Girls was won by Steph Pierce and Rose Keddell of BTHC, the Senior Boys was won by Paora Morunga and Morgan Seymour of TRID, the Junior Girls was won by Holly Boyle and Katie Wood of OTUM and the Junior Boys was won by Justin Sargent-Clarke and Connor Bell of TRGB. 12-10-09 Kiri Hirini and Kelsie Wills have won the first Mauao Women's Beach Challenger Tournament of the year. In the Men's Sam O'Dea and Edwin O'Dea took the first title of the year.
05-10-09 The Murray Mansfield Trophy and Jenny Kirk Cup change hands. The NZ U19 Men came from 2 sets down to win the 5th and deciding match and win back the Murray Mansfield Trophy, which Aussie have had a firm hold on since 2001. The NZ U19 Women also had their 5th and deciding match on Friday night unfortunately the Aussies took the match and the Jenny Kirk Cup for the first time since 2003. 01-10-09 NZ under 19 Men have taken the lead in the Murray Mansfield Test Series after a comeback victory over Australia last night at Bethlehem College. NZ were down 2 sets to 1 and down 10 - 6 in the 4th, when Josh Matthew came on to serve, this started a rally by the New Zealander who took the 4th set 25-23. in the 5th it was the jump serving of Ben O'Dea that saw NZ jump out to a 6-0 lead, a lead which they maintained throughout the decider, win comfortably 15-7. The teams now head to Hamilton then Auckland where NZ will have 2 chances to win the series.
30-09-09 AUS Junior Women taken the lead in the Jenny Kirk Cup Test Series winning game 3 against NZ - 3:1 (25-13, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17). AUS leads the series 2-1, the 4th game is on Thursday night.
30-09-09 Australia square the Murray Mansfield Test Series at 1 all after a thrilling 4 set win over NZ at Bethlehem College last night. The Aussi's had match point in the 3rd set but the Kiwi's came back to snatch it thanks to some great hitting by local boys Ben O'Dea and James Thomas. In the 4th set NZ had a set point to send the match into a 5th and deciding set, this time the Australians fought back to take the set and the match 3 - 1. The next match is tonight at Bethlehem College, starting at 6.30pm.

18-09-09 Tauranga's Sam Wallace-Boyd and Sam O'Dea have made a great start to the 2009 Under 21 Beach Volleyball World Champs in England. They won both there games on day 1, knocking over powerhouses Russia and USA. They will play Poland over night to finish the pool play section and hopefully move into the top 16. Edwin O'Dea and Sam Tui'vai were earlier knocked out in qualifying after winning 1 game.

14-08-09 Two NZ teams qualified for the main draw at this weeks World Tour event in Kristiansand, Norway, unfortunately both Pitman-Lochhead and Blundell-Scarlett lost both their matches on the first day to finish 25th.
08-08-09 Three Ex-Otumoetai College student competed at this weeks Swatch FIVB World Tour event in Poland. Susan Blundell and Mike Watson failed to make the main draw while Jason Lochhead finished 17th. These efforts reflect the great volleyball programme still operating at the college.

07-07-09 New Zealander Hugh McCutcheon, who coached the US Men's Volleyball team to Olympic Gold in 2008, is starting his next campaign this weekend. McCutcheon is now US Women's Volleyball coach and they are playing there conference qualifier for the 2010 World Championships. 27-05-09 3 teams with BOP players will be playing over night to secure a main draw berth on the FIVB Swatch beach volleyball world tour. In Poland Lindsay-Brown / Heath compete in the mens tournament and in Korea Lindsay-Brown / Griffiths and Blundell / Scarlett in the womens tournament. All the teams will need to win at least 2 games to advance into the main draw. NZ's top mens team Pitman / Lochhead have already been seeded directly into the main draw in Poland. 25-05-09 Tauranga Men's teams secured a victory over Hamilton 3-0 in the Northern Zone League over the weekend. Taurnaga Women had their work cut out for them against Hamilton who were looking for revenge from last years nationals semi-final. Hamilton took their revenge winning 16-14 in the 5th set. Tauranga Men's and Women's B both went underfeated in the midlands league. The Men's B team also took bragging rights by beating the Tauranga A in a non-league match.

19-05-09 Pitman and Lochhead finish 17th in Rome after losing to Spain. This week, the Men have a break and the Women take to the court in Osaka, Japan.
