10-12-09 The inaugral North Island Junior SS Beach Volleyball Champs was held at Mt Maunganui over the weekend. As with the indoor earlier in the week the BOP was dominant again. The Year 9 girls was won by Whakatane High School, the year 9 boys was won by Tauranga Boys College, and Otumoetai College took out both the boys and girls year 10 titles. 04-12-09 Otumoetai Girls have over powered Bethlehem College to win the North Island Junior Volleyball Championships. In the boys Western Heights came out all guns blazing and took the first set of the finals, however Trident boys stuck in and emerged as the 2009 boys champions in a 3 set thriller.
04-12-09 Bay of Plenty teams will contest both the division 1 finals at the NIJSSVC. In the Boys Trident HS will take on Western Heights High School. In the Girls Otumoetai College will face Bethlehem College. Live scoring will be available for the finals here.
02-12-09 At the end of Wednesdays play Trident HS and Otumoetai College boys and girls are still undeated in Div 1 at the NIJSSVC, as are Tga Boys' College, Western Heights HS boys. All of these teams are assured of quarter final spots Thursday afternoon. Whakatane HS girls, Tga Girls' College and Bethlehem College girls will compete with each other for one of the remaining quarter final spots, Mt Maunganui College girls still have a glimmer of hope at a quarter final spot. 02-12-09 North Island Secondary School Championships qualification phase is over. 12 BOP teams qualified for first division (top 16), 6 boys and 6 girls . Over the next day and a half the teams will battle it out in pool play followed by quarter finals on thursday evening. Tauranga Girls are looking to defend the tittle they won last year and in the boys Bay of Plenty will be looking to bring the trophy back after Napier boys won it last year, For more information click here.

16-11-09 The BOP Polytech BOPSS Beach Champs was held under beautiful blue skies on Saturday. 70 teams competed over 4 divsions. The Senior Girls was won by Steph Pierce and Rose Keddell of BTHC, the Senior Boys was won by Paora Morunga and Morgan Seymour of TRID, the Junior Girls was won by Holly Boyle and Katie Wood of OTUM and the Junior Boys was won by Justin Sargent-Clarke and Connor Bell of TRGB. 13-11-09 The BOP Polytech BOPSS Beach Volleyball Champs will be held at the Mount Maunganui Main Beach tomorrow. All players need to be at the beach before 8.15am to sign in. Any decsion on postponing or cancelling the event will be made at the beach at 8.30 so you must be there if you have entered.

09-11-09 The first round of the BOP Junior secondary school volleyball competition was completed this weekend. Tauranga Girls College topped the girls grade, while Trident High School lead the boys grade. The 2nd round will be held on the 21st and 22nd of Nov at the QEYC Stadium. 12-10-09 Kiri Hirini and Kelsie Wills have won the first Mauao Women's Beach Challenger Tournament of the year. In the Men's Sam O'Dea and Edwin O'Dea took the first title of the year.
05-10-09 The Murray Mansfield Trophy and Jenny Kirk Cup change hands. The NZ U19 Men came from 2 sets down to win the 5th and deciding match and win back the Murray Mansfield Trophy, which Aussie have had a firm hold on since 2001. The NZ U19 Women also had their 5th and deciding match on Friday night unfortunately the Aussies took the match and the Jenny Kirk Cup for the first time since 2003. 01-10-09 NZ under 19 Men have taken the lead in the Murray Mansfield Test Series after a comeback victory over Australia last night at Bethlehem College. NZ were down 2 sets to 1 and down 10 - 6 in the 4th, when Josh Matthew came on to serve, this started a rally by the New Zealander who took the 4th set 25-23. in the 5th it was the jump serving of Ben O'Dea that saw NZ jump out to a 6-0 lead, a lead which they maintained throughout the decider, win comfortably 15-7. The teams now head to Hamilton then Auckland where NZ will have 2 chances to win the series.
30-09-09 AUS Junior Women taken the lead in the Jenny Kirk Cup Test Series winning game 3 against NZ - 3:1 (25-13, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17). AUS leads the series 2-1, the 4th game is on Thursday night.
30-09-09 Australia square the Murray Mansfield Test Series at 1 all after a thrilling 4 set win over NZ at Bethlehem College last night. The Aussi's had match point in the 3rd set but the Kiwi's came back to snatch it thanks to some great hitting by local boys Ben O'Dea and James Thomas. In the 4th set NZ had a set point to send the match into a 5th and deciding set, this time the Australians fought back to take the set and the match 3 - 1. The next match is tonight at Bethlehem College, starting at 6.30pm.
29-09-09 NZ under 19 men have gone 1 - nil up after the first of 5 tests against Australia. The NZ team won a close 5 set match. The 2nd game is tonight at Bethlehem College. Get along and support the team.
23-09-09 The NZ Under 19 Women's team will head to Melbourne this weekend to compete against Australia in the Annual Jenny Kirk Cup Test Series. The NZ team feature 4 BOP players. 21-09-09 Sam Wallace-Boyd and Sam O'Dea have continued NZ's great form at Beach Volleyball World Champs. They finish 5th at the Under 21's in Blackpool, England. 18-09-09 Tauranga's Sam Wallace-Boyd and Sam O'Dea have made a great start to the 2009 Under 21 Beach Volleyball World Champs in England. They won both there games on day 1, knocking over powerhouses Russia and USA. They will play Poland over night to finish the pool play section and hopefully move into the top 16. Edwin O'Dea and Sam Tui'vai were earlier knocked out in qualifying after winning 1 game.
16-09-09 Tauranga will have 4 athletes competing at the 2009 Under 21 Beach Volleyball World Champs this week. Sam Tuivai and Edwin O'Dea will play in the qualifying tournament tonight and hopefully the main draw the following night. 02-09-09 Tauranga's Rachel Morgan was named tournament MVP of the Florida State Invitation Tournament. Rachel is at Florida State University on a volleyball scholarship. 02-09-09 Tauranga Volleyball Club had mixed success at the NZ Club Volleyball Championships. All teams finished slightly below expectations, Women's A 3rd, Men's A 10th, Womens B 4th in Div 2. 24-08-09 Tauranga Volleyball Club is sending 3 teams to compete at the National Club Championship in Christchurch this week. The Men's and Women's A teams will compete in Division 1, and the Women's B team will compete in Division 2. 14-08-09 Two NZ teams qualified for the main draw at this weeks World Tour event in Kristiansand, Norway, unfortunately both Pitman-Lochhead and Blundell-Scarlett lost both their matches on the first day to finish 25th.
08-08-09 Three Ex-Otumoetai College student competed at this weeks Swatch FIVB World Tour event in Poland. Susan Blundell and Mike Watson failed to make the main draw while Jason Lochhead finished 17th. These efforts reflect the great volleyball programme still operating at the college.

07-07-09 New Zealander Hugh McCutcheon, who coached the US Men's Volleyball team to Olympic Gold in 2008, is starting his next campaign this weekend. McCutcheon is now US Women's Volleyball coach and they are playing there conference qualifier for the 2010 World Championships. 27-05-09 3 teams with BOP players will be playing over night to secure a main draw berth on the FIVB Swatch beach volleyball world tour. In Poland Lindsay-Brown / Heath compete in the mens tournament and in Korea Lindsay-Brown / Griffiths and Blundell / Scarlett in the womens tournament. 25-05-09 Tauranga Men's teams secured a victory over Hamilton 3-0 in the Northern Zone League over the weekend. Taurnaga Women had their work cut out for them against Hamilton who were looking for revenge from last years nationals semi-final. Hamilton took their revenge winning 16-14 in the 5th set. Tauranga Men's and Women's B both went underfeated in the midlands league. The Men's B team also took bragging rights by beating the Tauranga A in a non-league match.
