The Mauao Challenger Beach Volleyball Tournament is an annual event hosted by Volleyball Bay of Plenty, that combines the love for the sport with the stunning backdrop of the Bay of Plenty region. The tournament takes place in the Bay of Plenty, with the iconic Mauao (Mount Maunganui) providing a stunning backdrop. This tournament is a must for competitive players and anyone looking for a weekend of beachside fun and excitement. So mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable volleyball experience at the Mauao Challenger. ​​​​​​​

Prize money will be awarded to teams who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each grade (open men and open women


Location: Mount Main Beach (by Commons Ave/ Marine Parade intersection)

Time: 8:30am - 4pm 

Divisions: 2 aside competitive (open men, open women, U17 & U19 grades), 2 aside social, 4 aside social (mixed gender). 

Cost: 

  • 2 aside divisions: $80 per team   
  • 4 a side division: $200 per team

All games will be played to the best of 3 sets

Age Qualifiers:

  • Under 17 - Must not turn 17 by 13/10/2023
  • Under 19 - Must not turn 19 by 13/10/2023

Please aim to be at the Mount Main beach by 8:30am to check-in your team as games start at 9:00am. Rubbish and recycling bins will be provided - please use these and keep our beach clean. Come prepared for all conditions, we will have sunblock but bring your own just in case. 

Each team will be required to duty.
