Meet the VBOP Team

The Volleyball Bay of Plenty (VBOP) team consists of three dedicated staff members and a strong board of four experienced members working together to grow volleyball across the entire Bay of Plenty region. Our aim is to provide players of all ages and skill levels with quality opportunities to learn, compete, and develop both on and off the court. Through programs like training sessions, leagues, and community events, VBOP supports players from all areas of the region, nurturing a vibrant volleyball culture where everyone—from beginners to elite athletes—can thrive.

At the heart of VBOP’s mission is inclusivity, development, and community connection. Our team collaborates closely with local clubs, schools, and coaches to deliver tailored resources and support that meet the needs of players and teams throughout the Bay of Plenty. We are committed to fostering an environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. Whether you’re new to the sport or pursuing higher levels of competition, the VBOP team is here to inspire and guide you every step of your volleyball journey.

  • Tymara Cox

    Regional Activator

Tymara has been part of the VBOP whānau for over two and a half years, leading the way in delivering programmes, events, and opportunities that help players of all ages enjoy and grow through volleyball.

Raised right here in the Bay, Tymara has been around the volleyball courts for as long as she can remember. She played for Otumoetai College during her school years and went on to represent New Zealand at age group level — experiences that shaped her love for the game and her drive to give back to the sport that’s given her so much.

She holds a Bachelor of Health, Sport and Human Performance, which helps her bring a well-rounded, thoughtful approach to her work. Whether it’s running a holiday camp, supporting new coaches, or cheering from the sidelines, Tymara is passionate about making volleyball a sport that feels welcoming, inclusive, and fun for everyone.

For her, it’s all about helping players find confidence, build connections, and enjoy being part of something bigger. Volleyball has always been her passion — and now she gets to share that passion with communities all across the Bay of Plenty.

  • Shaunna Polley

    Administrator

Shaunna is the heartbeat of Volleyball Bay of Plenty’s operations. As the VBOP Administrator, she plays a vital role in keeping the organisation running efficiently and effectively. From managing finances and processing funding applications to staying on top of communications, she ensures that the administrative side of our sport is always in good hands. Her reliability, organisation, and eye for detail help provide a solid foundation for everything we do—supporting players, coaches, referees, and the wider volleyball community.

What sets Shaunna apart is her unique combination of professionalism and passion for the sport. Off the court, she keeps things moving behind the scenes; on the sand, she’s an elite athlete in her own right. Shaunna has represented New Zealand on the international Beach Pro Tour and at the Commonwealth Games, bringing her competitive drive and deep understanding of high-performance volleyball to the VBOP team.

Shaunna’s dedication, both in the office and on the beach, reflects the spirit of excellence we strive for at Volleyball Bay of Plenty.
